Café Navarre New Orleans restaurant - nola places

Go for: outdoor seating, paninis, roast beef po boy and happy hour

Cafe Navarre opened after Hurricane Katrina to provide the neighborhood with a lunch spot where friends and family could meet for a great meal.  They shifted from ordering at the counter to a full service restaurant and added both brunch and dinner to their repertoire.

I would put Café Navarre’s roast beef po boy up against any restaurant in the city and in true New Olreans fashion, make sure you have plenty of napkins at your disposal.  It is that good.

The burgers are handmade with onions built into the patty which I love, but if you are not a fan of onions, you may want to steer clear of this one and look at the paninis.  The paninis are hand-pressed and if you can’t decide which one to go with, I recommend the chicken pesto.

The dinner menu is more extensive and includes specialty and build your own pizzas as well as a variety of appetizers. They have a full bar service and their happy hour includes Saturdays from 3-6pm.  If you are a fan of a screwdriver (the drink and not the tool), give their Froscrew a try.  Yep, it is a frozen screwdriver.

At Café Navarre, the outdoor seating is covered and has plenty of fans so unless it is snowing or a heat advisory is in effect, I would recommend sitting outside.  Their staff is always friendly, even when they are super busy. So whether you are heading to City Park or leaving Delgado, make sure you stop to support locally owned Cafe Navarre. – Karen Decker McCrossen
