Daiquiri Run on 61

Daiquiri Run on 61 sounds like your typical  drive through Daiquiri place on HIghway 61 (aka Airline Drive in Metry). But, it offers much more, including a full menu of good pub grub. • 4337 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001

Go for:  friendly service, daiquiris, outdoor seating and chicken wings

Let’s start with the daiquiris…..if you can’t find a flavor you want on one of the many daiquiri machines lined up behind the bar, don’t be discouraged.  They have recommendations for almost 50 different combinations on their menu.  The bartenders at Daiquiri Run are very nice and will let you sample if you still can’t decide. I am not a huge daiquiri fan but do occasionally enjoy the “Mardi Gras in Nola” Daiquiri.

I am pretty sure I have had everything on their menu except the salads (can’t do a salad at a bar) and the fried pickles (sorry not a pickle person). If you are looking for “fancy” bar food (i.e. truffle oil fries), you can skip this place and head over to Oak Street. But if you want comfort food at a decent price, I would steer you to the burgers, pork nachos and wings. Check their Facebook page for daily specials.

Be warned: They occasionally have karaoke. And, this place draws regular karaoke patrons that may not be the best singers but they look like they are having fun!  There is a pool table in front of the karaoke stage which could be distracting but they don’t miss a beat even if someone is breaking.  Hopefully they will go back to have Adam Pearce play music monthly.

This is one of the few bars pre-COVID that had decent outdoor seating. In front is a covered patio with plenty of tables and fans to keep you somewhat comfortable.  And, you get the bonus of watching whatever comes down Airline Drive.

Note: If you aren’t in the mood for a daiquiri, they have a full bar, wine and ice cold bottled beer (sorry no draft). – Karen Decker McCrossen
