I am not the best cook in the world. Heck, I am not the best cook in my family so why would I try the New Orleans School of Cooking? Because it is fun!
You can choose between a Hands-On Class or a Demonstration Class. Either way, you are going to learn a little about cooking, a little New Orleans history, eat some delicious home cooked food and meet a few new friends.
New Orleans School of Cooking is located on St. Louis Street in the French Quarter, and it is an easy walk from any hotel in the area.
Make a reservation before you go so you will have a guaranteed seat to where the magic happens. When you walk into the building, it is a bit like walking into a grocery store where your momma might have shopped when she was a little girl. Head over to the counter and tell them you are here for the cooking class. They will direct you to one of the many different rooms they have.
At New Orleans School of Cooking — all the chefs are excellent storytellers. They will help you understand why New Orleanians cook like they cook. Normally you will assist in preparing one of the three courses that will be created. Some of the recipes are for Louisiana Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole, BBQ Shrimp and Grits and Bananas Foster Crepes just to name a few! Yes, you get to eat all three courses. Be sure to save room for the pralines….sooo good. They even send you home with the recipes you used.
As you leave, you will be heading back into the main store. Feel free to purchase any and all sundries that catch your eye. I love my New Orleans School of Cooking Apron. It makes me feel like a can really cook! They have great gift baskets and cookware too!
The School is also open for private parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthday parties and team building. – Christine Sory
